Choosing a Plumber

How Much Does a Plumber Cost in Surrey?

Published 26 November 2025 by WDI Group (Surrey) Ltd

Plumber pricing can feel like a black box, with quotes that vary wildly and hidden charges that only appear on the invoice. We publish our rates openly on our rates page so you know what to expect before you book, rather than after.

Here's a straightforward breakdown of what plumbing, heating and gas work costs, and the factors that affect the final bill, along with a look at how drainage work and boiler servicing are priced separately.

Our current hourly rates

  • £99 per hour for plumbing, heating and gas work, 7:30am to 5pm
  • £120 per hour between 5pm and 7pm
  • £185 per hour out of hours
  • £220 per hour on Sundays and bank holidays
  • A gas safety certificate or boiler service is £99, or £160 combined
  • Drainage, CCTV surveys and jetting are £145 during the daytime

No call-out charge, no emergency premium

We don't charge a call-out fee on top of the hourly rate, and there's no separate emergency premium beyond the published out-of-hours and Sunday/bank holiday rates. You're simply charged the applicable hourly rate for the time worked. Full details are on our rates page.

How time is billed

Work is billed with a one-hour minimum charge, after which time is billed in 30-minute increments. This means a very quick fix and a job that runs slightly over an hour are both billed fairly, without rounding a 65-minute job up to two full hours.

What affects the total cost

  • The time of day or day of the week the work is carried out
  • How long the job actually takes, which depends on complexity and access
  • Whether parts are needed and their cost
  • Whether it's a straightforward repair or requires further diagnosis first
  • Whether the job needs specialist equipment, such as a CCTV drain survey

Drainage and CCTV survey pricing

Drainage work, including clearing blocked drains and jetting, is charged at £145 during the daytime. A CCTV drain survey carries a £75 fee for the first hour, which covers identifying the location and likely cause of a blockage or defect before any further work is agreed.

Why transparent pricing matters

Knowing the hourly rate in advance means you can make an informed decision about whether to book an evening appointment or wait until the next working day, and there are no surprise call-out fees added to the final invoice. See the full rates page at /our-rates for complete details.

Typical costs for common jobs

Because most work is charged by time rather than a fixed job price, the total cost depends on how long a repair actually takes. A simple job, such as fixing a dripping tap or replacing a tap washer, often falls within the one-hour minimum charge. A more involved repair, such as tracing and fixing a hidden leak, or replacing a section of pipework, will naturally take longer and be billed accordingly in 30-minute increments after the first hour. Any parts needed, from washers to full replacement fittings, are identified during the visit and agreed with you before they're fitted.

Why we price by time rather than fixed job quotes

Fixed 'per job' pricing can sound reassuring, but it often means a premium is built in to cover jobs that turn out to be more complicated than expected. Charging by time means straightforward jobs cost less and you're never paying for padding that covers a worst-case scenario that didn't happen. It does mean the final cost isn't known with total precision before work starts, which is why we're upfront about the hourly rate and happy to give a realistic estimate over the phone based on what you describe.

Getting the most accurate estimate over the phone

  • Describe exactly what you're seeing or hearing, including how long it's been happening
  • Mention whether you've already tried anything, such as isolating a leak or resetting a boiler
  • Let us know if it's an emergency or something that can wait for the next available daytime slot
  • Ask directly for a rough time estimate for the type of job, based on similar work we've carried out before

Frequently asked questions

Is there a call-out fee?

No, we don't charge a call-out fee. You pay the applicable hourly rate for time worked, with a one-hour minimum.

How is out-of-hours work charged?

Out-of-hours work is charged at £185 per hour, and Sundays and bank holidays at £220 per hour, both shown on our rates page.

Does the price include VAT?

Rates shown are exclusive of VAT. Check our rates page for the full current pricing details.

How much does a CCTV drain survey cost?

A CCTV drain survey is £75 for the first hour, which is usually enough to identify the location and cause of most drainage issues.

Can I get a fixed price instead of an hourly rate?

We price by time rather than a fixed job fee, as this generally works out fairer for straightforward jobs. We're happy to give a realistic time estimate over the phone based on what you describe.

Are there any hidden costs I should know about?

No. The hourly rate covers labour, there's no call-out fee, and any parts required are agreed with you before they're fitted, so the final invoice reflects only the time worked and any parts you've approved.
