Fitting a new tap involves more than just connecting it to the existing pipework. Older properties in particular can have supply pipe spacing or connector types that do not match modern taps exactly, so an engineer will check compatibility before starting.

When replacement makes more sense than repair

What is involved in fitting a new tap
An engineer will isolate the water supply, remove the old tap, check the condition of the flexible tails and isolation valves, and fit the new tap ensuring it is properly sealed and secure. Where the sink or basin has different tap hole spacing, adaptors or a different tap style may be needed.

These are often replaced at the same time as a tap since they can perish or seize over the years, and doing so avoids a second job later.
If you are supplying your own tap
It helps to check the tap hole configuration on your sink or basin (single hole, two hole, or three hole) before buying, and to confirm whether it needs a hot and cold feed or a single mixed feed, since not all taps suit all sinks.
