What Gas Safe registration means
Gas Safe registration confirms an engineer is qualified and legally permitted to work on gas appliances and installations. Registered engineers carry an ID card showing their registration number and the categories of gas work they are qualified for.

How to check an engineer's registration
Ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card, which shows their licence number and photo, and check the categories of work listed match the job being carried out. You can also verify registration on the official Gas Safe Register website.
If you smell gas
If you smell gas, leave the property, avoid using switches or naked flames, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately. Do not attempt to investigate or fix a suspected gas leak yourself.
