WDI Group plumber with a branded van outside a Cheam property

A burst pipe, overflowing cistern or sudden leak rarely happens at a convenient time, and knowing who to call matters. We cover Cheam, Sutton and the surrounding area for plumbing emergencies, from a split flexi-hose under the sink to water coming through a ceiling.

Emergency call-out availability may vary depending on engineer availability, so the best first step is always to contact us and we will advise on availability and the quickest response we can provide. We never promise a fixed arrival time because traffic, job length and how many other jobs are already booked all affect it, but we will always be honest with you about what we can do.

While you wait, turning off the stopcock and switching off any affected electrics at the consumer unit can limit damage. Our engineers arrive with the tools and common parts needed to fix most plumbing emergencies on the first visit.

What counts as a plumbing emergency

Not every plumbing problem needs an emergency response, but some do because they risk damage to your home or, in the case of gas, to your safety.

  • Burst or split pipes causing active water flow
  • Uncontrollable leaks from a tank, cylinder or radiator
  • A toilet cistern that will not stop filling and is overflowing
  • Water coming through a ceiling or light fitting
  • No water at all when a stopcock or valve has failed shut

What to do before we arrive

There are a few safe steps most people can take themselves while waiting for an engineer.

Turn off the water

Find your internal stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink or near the front door, and turn it clockwise to shut off the mains supply to the property.

Protect the area

Move furniture and electrical items away from water, use towels or a bucket to catch drips, and switch off electrics if water is near sockets or light fittings.

What our engineers check on arrival

An engineer will trace the source of the leak or fault first rather than just treating the symptom, checking pipe runs, joints, fittings and any recent work that may have disturbed a connection.

How charging works for emergency call-outs

We do not charge a call-out fee and there is no separate emergency premium fee added on top. Work is charged by time, with different rates depending on the day and time of the visit, and a one hour minimum followed by 30 minute increments after that. Full current rates are listed on our rates page.

Emergency Plumber — common questions

There is no call-out charge and no separate emergency premium fee. Work is charged at the applicable hourly rate for the time of day, which is higher outside normal working hours. See /our-rates for the current figures.

How quickly can you get to Cheam or Sutton?

It depends on engineer availability at the time you call. We do not promise a fixed arrival time, but contact us and we will advise on availability and the quickest response we can provide.

Should I turn off my water before you arrive?

Yes, if you have a leak or burst pipe, turning off the stopcock is a safe and sensible first step that can limit damage while you wait for an engineer.

What if the emergency involves a gas smell?

If you smell gas, leave the property, do not operate switches, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, and do not attempt any gas work yourself.
